Mathematical Self-Portraits

8th-grade students in Mrs. Dowdy's math classes created self-portraits by estimating the size and location of their facial features, then using those measurements to draw and place the features.  Students estimated the height and width of their faces, the length of their noses, and the width of their smiles and eyes.  Students then estimated the distance between those features on their faces.  Some of the estimates were a bit off, as you can tell from the final products.  This beginning-of-the-year project is a great way to refresh those estimation and measurement skills!
